Vad glad man blir när man hittar ett galleri med foton från anno dazumal (från gamla, men icke ‘löjliga’, tider). Dagens skörd – this day’s vintage – är underbara bilder som kan ses på The American Photochrom Archive. Det är ”photochrom”, d.v.s. bilder som är producerade från svartvita negativ. Det finns omkring 1300 bilder från USA, Kanada, Mexiko och Kuba i världens största (?) kollektion av original ”vintage Photochroms”.

First of all, is it ”photochrome” or ”photochrom”?
The process was initially developed in Switzerland and was spelled without an ”e”, so the correct original spelling was actually ”photochrom”. Once the process was introduced in America, the ”e” was added to aid pronunciation.
A Photochrom is a color photo lithograph, produced from a black-and-white negative. The final prints were created using different color impressions from multiple lithographic stones.
